tips for grounding
Eat nourishing food. Eating reminds us that we have a physical body and the process of digestion helps to bring energy down from our crown and third eye chakras.
Connect to the earth. Walk barefoot in nature. Focus on the feeling of the ground beneath your feet. Spend some time gardening and tending the earth. Hug a tree.
Salt bath. Both salt and water have natural healing properties. Salt baths are wonderful for washing away negative energy.
Meditation. Take a moment to close your eyes and imagine you have roots growing from you (your feet or root chakra, whatever is touching the earth) and anchoring into the earth. Breathe and allow your energy to balance.
Crystals. Carry a grounding crystal. Jasper, black kyanite, blue kyanite, black tourmaline, smokey quartz, garnet or hematite.
Routine. Completing everyday tasks like washing dishes, cooking dinner, or walking the dog can also ground you! Everyday tasks bring you into the present.
Body scan. Take 1 minute to scan your body and become aware of wherever you feel pain, tension, anxiety. Maybe your jaw is clenched, your chest is tight or you feel a little sick to your stomach. Whatever it is, simply notice it and breathe into it. As you inhale, visualise sending breath into that space in your body. Exhale and let it pass.
Soak your feet in warm water. The act of soaking your feet, will bring the energy down and away from your head (crown chakra) and into your body — which will ground you.
Colour visualisation. Deep earthy colours such as red, brown and terracotta are always good. Imagine that this colour surrounds you. You can imagine it as light, or a blanket, whatever is easier for you.
Drink tea. Make a hot cup of tea. Sit down (the floor or ground) and slowly drink your tea. Be still.
Movement. Moving your body can help you feel centred, connected to your body and get rid of excess energy.
